What is Netflix’s ‘Play Something’ Feature and How to Access it?

With more than 200 million paying subscribers around the world, Netflix has become the dominant company in the streaming media industry. Netflix has more than 4000 movies and 2000 web series which makes it difficult for the viewers to choose from. You just keep scrolling and flipping through Netflix icons to watch the perfect movie/series but by the time you decide to watch, you may fall asleep even before the opening credit.

To make it easier to find something to watch, Netflix has introduced a new feature called ‘Play Something’. This feature is available to all its users globally that allows you to watch movies and series that you’ve never seen before. The platform automatically shows a list of content that it chooses for you to watch when you access this feature.

Based on its algorithm, Netflix chooses the type of content which is suitable for you according to your taste. Right now, this feature is visible on TV-based versions of the Netflix app and soon the company is planning to test this feature on Android devices too. According to Netflix, the Play Something feature can execute as many as 75 series. The on-demand platform plays the film or web series similar to the content you’ve been watching already when you click on the ‘Play Something’ button.

Netflix will not show you the series or movies you’ve already completed. It will show you the contents which are new or unfinished. When you hit the ‘Plays Something’ Button, you get to see the movies and series according to your preference and with one more click, you get an option of ‘Play Something Else’ where you can watch ‘a brand new series or film, already watching series or film, list of series or film on watch later list and unfinished series or movies you want to revisit’.

When you turn on the ‘Play Something’ feature, Netflix will indicate the same with a border on the screen, and the button on the right side. If you don’t want to watch the movie or series according to the preference and want to browse back normally, you can do so by hitting on the exit button on the top left corner of the screen.

Netflix has made sure to find the ‘Play Something’ button easily on its app in multiple ways. Here’s how you can access this feature on Netflix on your TV?

1. When you log in to your Netflix account, you can access the ‘Play Something’ button on the homepage of your Netflix dashboard which can be seen underneath your profile name.

2. At the top of your homepage, you can find the ‘Play Something’ feature. You can select the feature and scroll until you find the perfect show to watch.

3. On the left side of the screen, you will find the navigation menu which is also available on the tenth row on your Netflix first page.
