Get To Know About WiFi calling service or Vo-WiFi Introduced By Vi
Vi, the recently rebranded version of Vodafone Idea is finally launching the much-awaited feature of WiFi calling. This feature was initially launched in Maharashtra and Kolkata region. But the telecommunications company is planning to launch this feature soon all over India. WiFI calling or ‘VoWiFi’ will prove to be a beneficial feature for customers present in areas with weak or no connection.
After the initial launch of WiFi calling or Vo WiFi in Maharashtra and Kolkata circles last month, Vodafone Idea has launched this feature in the Delhi region. Vodafone Idea or Vi had initiated its re-farming process in 2020 in order to make 4g available all over India and is now introducing the VoWiFi feature in all the areas equipped with 4g.
While introducing this feature in December 2020, the telecommunications company had announced that VoWiFi will allow all of its customers to make voice calls while they are using any Wi-Fi network and that VoWiFi will allow its users to make calls even when there is no mobile network or a weak mobile network is present.
This entire development was first reported by Telecom Talk, they also reported that Vodafone Idea will plausibly extend its WiFi services all across India. However, no official statement has been made by the telecom company as of yet regarding this matter. In order to use the WiFi calling feature, the customers need to have a 4g sim card along with a compatible device that supports VoWiFi calling. Along with the sim card and compatible device, users will need an active WiFi connection in order to make or receive calls. It is absolutely necessary for the users to have these three in order to make a WiFi call.
Vodafone Idea or Vi’s customer care page wrote a tweet last month announcing the list of compatible devices or smartphones for WiFi calling.

In order to activate this feature, users need to enable VoLTE on their sim cards in order to enable VoWiFi. After enabling VoLTE, users need to go to the option of SIM Card and Networks, select 4G sim and then turn on the ‘Make Calls using WiFi’ option. As mentioned prior, the Vodafone Idea has already rolled out this wiFi calling feature in Maharashtra-Goa, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Gujarat and Delhi areas.
Even though Vodafone Idea or Vi initially planned to launch VoWiFi before other telecommunication companies, it got delayed by almost a year due to the network integration of Vodafone and Idea. As a result, the VoWiFi feature finally rolled out in December 2020 which was almost after a year Airtel and Jio introduced the same feature. Airtel rolled out the VoWiFi feature in December 2019. Jio followed the suit and launched VoWiFi in January 2020. Most of the recent smartphones support the VoWiFi feature. BSNL also provides the option of internet calling through its app ‘Wings’, but it is different from VoWiFi.
In another report, it was noted that Vi has also launched the Popular Video on Demand or PVOD pay-per-view services in partnership with Hungama digital platform. This service allows the users to rent the latest movies at the cost of Rs 60 and more. This pay-per-view service in India is premature but holds significant potential. This service will also allow the users to Chromecast the movies they bought on a big screen and it will also allow the users to choose from over 300 titles. Additionally, Vi had also announced last week that its customers will have unlimited night-time internet from 12 AM to 6 AM. However, the users will need to subscribe to the unlimited prepaid plans above Rs 249 in order to avail of this service.
