Google Meet Now Allows Users to Blur or Set Different Background for Android
In the year 2020 and now 2021, we have seen some major changes in the world due to the coronavirus pandemic. The demand for video communication services has increased greatly, whether it’s online classes or office meetings. The video communication platforms are working really hard to make their sites more interactive and interesting for the users. Now, Google has rolled out various features for its video communication service.
Google Meet, developed by Google, has now an option to change its virtual backgrounds for its Android application. Earlier, this feature was limited just to the web version of the Google Meet that was first launched in October 2020. But now, Google has extended this feature for Android users that will allow them to switch their videos from live backgrounds to virtual backgrounds.
Google Meet for Android now supports various backgrounds including blurring or selecting one of Google’s hand-picked images. Users can choose different backgrounds according to their preferences such as landscapes, office spaces, and abstract wallpapers. Google in a statement said that “the reason for coming up with this feature is to show more of your personality by replacing or blurring the background or hiding your surroundings”.
Currently, this feature doesn’t support iPad/iPhone as it is only available for Android users but in the near future, this will be available to everyone.

- Open the Google Meet app and select a meeting.
- Before joining the meeting, there is an option of ‘Change the Background’ on the bottom of your self-view, tap on it.
- Choose the background according to your preference- Between slightly blur or available presets.
- And if you forgot to change the background before joining the meeting, you can change it during the meeting also by tapping on self-view.
