In our society today, these smartphones are used for a variety of reasons like everyday communication, photography, entertainment, banking, and even classes. In a nutshell, if today, a person loses their smartphone, it is nothing less than a tragedy.

Even though that is not a common occurrence, considering how carefully everyone handles their phone especially if it is one of those expensive phones that might cost you your entire salary. But if it somehow still happens, you don’t really need to worry in case you were using an android smartphone. An individual can trace their android device if certain features of the phone are turned on in case of theft or loss. And it is all thanks to the popular tech company, Google that offers the Android Operating System with some unique features. These features will not only assist the user in tracking the location of their missing device but are also capable of locking and erasing the data on that device.

Google suggests a number of simple and easy steps that the users can follow in case they want to trace their missing or stolen devices. However, it is not as easy as it sounds considering there are some pre-requisites in case the user wants to find, lock or erase the data on their missing android smartphone.

One of the most important prerequisites is that the android device in question should be turned on, with a Google account signed in. The location of the device must also be switched on. Along with this, the device also needs to have an active internet connection whether it is through mobile data or Wi-Fi.

And finally, the user needs to have the ‘Find My Device’ setting turned on in the smartphone.

In case all of these aforementioned steps are met, the user can further follow these steps to track their android device:

Go to “android.com/find” on a computer or a tablet or any other device available. Users, then, need to sign in to their Google account, it should be the same account that was previously signed in to the lost smartphone. After signing in to the Google account, users can check their battery life along with the last online status of the device. Google will then display the approximate location of the lost android device.

In case the approximate location of the device is unknown, Google will instead display the last known location of the device.

If the smartphone is in a nearby location that the user has access to, they can just go to the said location and select the ‘Play Sound’ option. If the user selects this option, their device will ring non-stop for the next few minutes.

In case the user wants to lock their screen, they can select the ‘Secure Device’ option.  Choosing this option will lead to the device being locked immediately and the Google account will be automatically signed out.

The user can further choose to send a message to their device which will be displayed on the main screen. This message will have your contact mobile number.

In case the user needs to erase the data on their lost smartphone, they can instead select the ‘Erase Device’ option. Choosing this option will lead to the entire content of the device being deleted. Users should opt for this feature only of none of the aforementioned steps work and there is no way of finding the lost android device as all of the data will be deleted permanently. But on the plus side, you can save any sensitive information you might have on your phone from being leaked even if you lose your smartphone.
