Unless you are living under a rock, you must have known by now that a considerable amount of people are switching to Signal and Telegram from WhatsApp every single day. Well, it all started with a disastrous decision that has recently brought WhatsApp under severe scrutiny. At first, Apple’s privacy label revealed the extensive amount of metadata that the popular messaging app collects from its users who are present all across the world. WhatsApp tried to refute this report by talking about its unfairness and pointing out how Apple-owned iMessage did not even have a privacy label, to begin with. Apple did not shy away from replying and published a privacy label for its own messaging feature which made things even more difficult for the social media giant.

WhatsApp might have still lived down this controversy but another sudden announcement just made things go from bad to worse.

To give you a summary, WhatsApp recently introduced a change in the terms and conditions of its services, especially its privacy policy. As per WhatsApp’s explanation, this new change was introduced in order to allow business accounts inter-communication between Facebook and WhatsApp. However, this very move sparked distrust among the WhatsApp users, as there was a severe concern about how WhatsApp will be sharing the metadata collected from its users with its parent company, Facebook. This was seen as a sheer breach of privacy by the users. And this is exactly where these new apps, Signal and Telegram, come into the picture.

Concerned over the new privacy conditions put forth by WhatsApp and afraid of their data being collected, people have come up with a solution of their own. More and more people are switching from WhatsApp towards a different, preferably more secure messaging app. Amidst the entire debate, Signal and Telegram have turned out to be the only winners in this debacle, as most of the previous WhatsApp users have switched to these two apps because of their claims about their security.

However, just like any other transition, even this transition wasn’t really smooth and has concerns. One of the prime concerns that the users are annoyed about is the constant notifications that they receive from both of these apps. Notification indicating a new message is understandable but users are complaining about the notifications they receive every time a new user joins either of these apps. Considering the fact that so many people are joining these apps every single day, it is certain that users are receiving dozens of notifications daily and it can honestly get quite annoying after a certain point. These apps basically send a notification every time somebody from your contact list joins the app. Now imagine, doing anything on your phone, like browsing the internet, or surfing through an app, watching a video, or just anything in general, and you keep receiving these random notifications that don’t really concern you in any way.

Well, there is one silver lining to all of this, both the apps allow its users to switch off these notifications as per their preference. All you need to do is follow a simple set of steps in order to get rid of these notifications.
