Google Rolls Out ‘Track Lost Phone’ Feature Like Apple’s Find My Network

Technology has advanced so much that now we can even find lost phones. Google is currently developing a new type of technology which is the global expansion of the Android Earthquake Alert System. Google is in the process of creating a network powered by Android phones. It is a network where all the devices will be connected within a network granting access to each other to locate, trace and identify the location of the lost device. With this, Android users can easily track your misplaced device.

Google is creating a similar technology like Apple’s Find My network, which is used for tracking a missing Apple device. Find My network supports all kinds of Apple devices such as iPads, iPhones, Macs, including the newly released AirTag Trackers to track the lost devices.

Google already has their Find My Device feature for Android but that version could only find the phones that are switched on and are connected to an active internet connection via Wi-Fi or mobile data. Now, Google has updated their Find My Device feature and the Beta version of this network is available on the Google Play Services. The latest update allows the users to track their Android phones even if the lost device is switched off.

As per your preference, there will also be an option to join the network or opt-out of it, according to the latest Google Play Services Beta update. There is also a feature called Spot which uses encryption and gets refreshed at definite time intervals. Google is currently focusing much more on the users’ privacy and experience as Android phones are more vulnerable to cyber-attacks and malware as compared to iOS.

Though there is no official statement by Google on what all can be tracked with the new network and whether the feature is only limited to the phones or if the update will be extended to other types of devices as well. The best part of this feature is that Android users can track their misplaced phones even if there is no active internet connection.

Google is also coming up with the expansion of the Android Earthquake Alert System. The update will be rolled out to the users globally later this year. The upgraded Android Earthquake Alert System will be able to detect seismic waves by using accelerometers on Android smartphones. The seismic waves are primarily used to indicate an earthquake. This means, if an Android device detects any kind of irregular motion such as vibrations or shaking, it will directly send the signals to Google’s Earthquake Detection Server.
