If there is one application making headlines recently, it has to be the social media giant, Facebook. The globally popular social media app garnered even more attention when Facebook’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg announced that Facebook will be merging Messenger with Instagram DMs. 

With a recent software update offered by Facebook, the tech company merged it’s three apps, WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram. And with the new update, came new exciting features. We have compiled a list of these new features along with some existing hacks and tips for our users.

  • Adding Special Effects to DMs

Users need to ensure that they have the latest version of Instagram available on their phone. They can, then open any chat and start typing a message, they will see a magnifier on the left. Users can then choose from the four new effects available. After tapping and choosing one of these effects, the message will be sent along with a special effect.

  • Saving Messages for Future Use

Users can save a message by long pressing on it and tapping on the ‘Save’ option. Users will then be asked to assign a shortcut to that message, they can enter the shortcut and tap on ‘Save’. In order to save a received message, repeat the same process of long-pressing the message, assigning a shortcut to it and then tap on ‘Save’.

  • Get Custom Notification Whenever Your Best Friend Posts

Users can turn on notifications for a particular individual. With this feature, users will receive a notification whenever the said individual posts anything. Users just need to visit that individual’s Instagram profile and tap on the bell icon in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. A menu with three options of ‘Post’, ‘Stories’, ‘IGTV’ and tap on the notifications you want to receive.

  • Check Out All The Posts You Have Liked

If you have ever wanted to see all the posts that you have liked, we will give you an easier way than searching through your memory. Basically, all you need to do is go on your profile and click on the three dots at the top right corner of the screen and select ‘Settings’ option. Further, select the ‘Account’ option and then you will finally see the option to see the posts you have liked. Tap on it and decide if there are any posts you would want to unlike.

  • You Can Schedule Your Posts For Future Upload

People have a habit of clicking pictures and then posting them on Instagram on the go but not many people realise that they can schedule their posts in order to upload them in future. But it’s only possible if users have a business account and use a social media scheduling tool or ‘HubSpot’. Users can basically pre-post pictures from their laptops for a set day and time in the future using a scheduling tool if they have switched to a professional account. 

  • Make a Collection of Your Favourite Saved Posts

We all scroll through Instagram to see and react to posts and stories we like but has it ever crossed your mind as to how you may not ever see a particular post again in your feed. Well, no need to think about it any further as now you can simply bookmark these posts for yourself and then go back to them whenever you like. In addition to this, you can also make separate collections for the kind of posts you save. For instance, you can a collection of saved posts dedicated to food, another collection just dedicated to travel, and maybe another one dedicated to your favourite movie or TV show. You can access this collection by going on your profile and tapping on the three dots at the top right corner of the screen and selecting the ‘Saved’ option. This option is also available under the bio of your profile right beside the ‘Edit Profile’ option after the latest update.
